Rediscover Our Flint River in a Kayak or CanoePaddling the Flint River

Bald eagles, great blue herons, kingfishers, dragonflies, turtles, walleye, bluegills, smallmouth bass and more awaits you!  Thanks to the generous support of the Genesee County Drain Commissioner and the Genesee County Community Water Quality Consortium’s“Our Water” program, the Flint River Watershed Coalition hosts Flint River Paddles from May through  September, and each one is a uniquely beautiful journey down a different part our Flint River.  Paddle with us to explore the beauty and wonder of our healthy thriving Flint River on a guided tour.  You can also paddle on your own at your own pace with friends!

Meeting time is 10:00 am unless otherwise stated (PLEASE arrive no later than 10:00 am so there is time for unloading and registration) See calendar below for trip prices

Prices includes insurance, shuttling, water, snacks, and guides but there may be additional charges for some events depending upon shuttle service. All trips are scouted ahead of time. A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available to rent, so register early!

28thRotary Park to Saginaw St LandingSunday Kayaking in the Parks Lovely Lapeer Paddle 
Time: 10am meet up      
Cost: $25 per participantJoin the Flint River Watershed Coalition and For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum as we explore the Flint River as it travels through Lapeer. This paddle will last roughly 2 hours (portaging may be required) and will launch from Rotary Park and end at the Saginaw Street Landing. We will be joined by a river guide from the FRWC and a naturalist from For-Mar who will assist in identifying all the wildlife we see along the way. This section of the Flint River is best enjoyed in the Spring and Fall when the water levels are up and the local wildlife can be enjoyed from the comfort of a kayak as you float by.Pre-registration required by 5/25/17Location: Rotary Park in Lapeer, Nepessing Street at Lyle Street.

3rdMillville Launch to Norway Lake RdSaturday Paddle with Sierra Club/6 Rivers  
Time: 10am meet up      
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if rentingJoin the FRWC, Sierra Club, and 6 Rivers Adventure League on this moderate 3 to 4 hour paddle on the Flint River in Lapeer. Portaging may be required in areas.Pre-registration required by 6/1/17Location: Take M-24 through Lapeer 1.5 miles past McLaren Hospital. Turn left onto Plum Creek Rd. Go 1.9 miles to Millville Launch on the left corner of Plum Creek Rd and Millville Rd.
9thRiverview Canoe Landing (Mitson Blvd) to Flushing Riverview ParkFriday Paddle – Full Moon Float  
Time: 8pm meet up     
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if renting This will be the FRWC’s first ever Full Moon Float. We will meet at Riverview Canoe Landing (located off Mitson Blvd) at 8 pm on Friday June 9th and float for 2 ½ hours to Flushing’s Riverview Park on Cherry Street. This paddle will also include a Glow Stick for each participant. Skies must be 85% clear for the event to happen. Space is limited.Pre-registration required by 6/6/17Location: End of Mitson Blvd off Flushing Road.
11thHolloway Dam to Irish RoadSunday Kayaking in Parks – Nature on the River  
Time: 10am meet up     
Cost: $25 per participantJoin the Flint River Watershed Coalition and For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum as we enjoy a peaceful nature tour along the Flint River. This 2 ½ hour long paddle will launch from the Holloway Dam launch and travel to the Irish Road launch.  We will be joined by a river guide from the FRWC and a naturalist from For-Mar who will assist in identifying all the wildlife we see along the way. The Flint River is home to a large variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, deer, turtles, muskrat, and a variety of fish. Come find out who calls the Flint River home, and what you can do to help protect this wonderful natural resource.Pre-registration required by 6/8/17Location: Take I-69 to M-15 (Davison exit). Go north on M-15 about 6.5 miles to Stanley Road. Go east (right) on Stanley Road about 1 mile to Oak Road, then go north about 1/2 mile to Carr Road. Take Carr Road 0.3 miles to launch at the base of the Holloway Dam.
17thFlushing Riverview Park to Flushing Township Nature ParkSaturday Paddle – Float through Flushing  
Time: 10am meet up 
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if renting Take some time for yourself and kayak the Flint River through Flushing. Meet at the kayak launch in Flushing Riverview Park and enjoy a fun 3 hour trip down the river.Pre-registration required by 6/15/17Location: Flushing Riverview Park, Cherry Street south of Main Street
29thFlushing Township Nature Park to Montrose Barber ParkThursday Evening Paddle – Twilight Paddle
Time: 5pm meet up 
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if rentingSpend a lovely evening floating down the Flint River. Meet at the kayak launch in Flushing Township Nature Park at 5 pm and enjoy a relaxing 2 hour trip. There is plenty to see along this beautiful stretch of the river.Pre-registration required by 6/26/17Location: Flushing Township Nature Park on N. McKinley Road.

6thM-15 to Irish RoadThursday Evening Paddle – Escape your Day  
Time: 5pm meet up      
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if renting Celebrate the end of your work day floating down the Flint River. This 2 hour paddle is along a relaxing stretch of the river teeming with wildlife, the perfect way to unwind.Pre-registration required by 7/3/17Location:  M-15 launch north of Coldwater Road
9thIrish Road to Mott LakeSunday Paddle Kayaking in Parks – Experience the true Flint River  
Time: 10am meet up       
Cost: $25 per participantJoin the Flint River Watershed Coalition and For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum as we enjoy a nature tour along the Flint River. This 3 hour long paddle will launch from the Irish Road launch and travel to Mott Lake.  We will be joined by a river guide from the FRWC and a naturalist from For-Mar who will assist in identifying all the wildlife we see along the way. This beautiful stretch of the Flint River is a kayaking favorite, teeming with wildlife of all kinds and gorgeous scenery.Pre-registration required by 7/6/17Location: :  Irish Road just north of the Richfield Park entrance. (north of Richfield Rd.).
20thBirch Run Stretch, Morseville to SeymourThursday Paddle through Birch Run     
Time: 5pm meet up      
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if renting Escape the heat by taking a refreshing paddle on the river. This 2 hour paddle explores a fun stretch of the Flint River.  We will be paddling from the Morseville Rd launch to the Seymour Rd launch by the railroad tracks.Pre-registration required by 7/17/17Location: Morseville Road north of Birch Run Road across from the Taymouth Township Office

Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if renting Pack a picnic lunch and come along one of our favorite stretches of the gorgeous Flint River! 5thFRCA FlotillaFlint River Corridor Alliance 4th Annual Flotilla

Come float down the Flint River with us! This is not your normal float down the Flint River. Bring whatever floatation device you can think up! Last year we had kayaks, boats, inner tubes, even a 30 foot raft! Please see the FRCA website (http://www.frcalliance.org) for more cost, location, and more information.

6thIrish to Mott LakeSunday Paddle    
Time: 10am meet up     
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if rentingEscape the heat! Come cool off with a refreshing paddle on the river. This stretch is home to Bald Eagles, Osprey, and a wide variety of other wildlife that we may be lucky enough to see during our 3 hour trip.Pre-registration required by 8/3/17Location for kayaking portion of trip:  Just north of the Richfield Park entrance off of Irish Rd. (north of Richfield Rd.).

26thBray Road to Vietnam Veterans ParkSaturday 5th Annual Pedal to Paddle  
Time: 10am meet up for Kayak trip  
Cost: $10 per person with own kayak/canoe or $15 each if renting Join us for our 5th Annual Pedal to Paddle! Enjoy the beauty of summer with a lovely bike ride down the Flint River Trail and then cool off with a 2 ½ hour paddle along a unique part of the Flint River that winds from rural to urban . This event is designed to allow participants to bike ride, paddle, or join in on both! Cost: $25 per participantEnjoy a truly unique Flint River float as we travel from downtown Flint through the Chevy Commons to Mott Park. This paddle will last about 2 hours and will be led by a river guide from the FRWC and a naturalist from For-Mar who will assist in identifying all the wildlife we see along the way.Pre-registration required by 9/14/17.Location: Tenacity Brewing on Grand Traverse in Flint
