Flint River Paddles

Rediscover Our Flint River in a Kayak or CanoePaddling the Flint River

Bald eagles, great blue herons, kingfishers, dragonflies, turtles, walleye, bluegills, smallmouth bass and more awaits you!  Thanks to the generous support of the Genesee County Drain Commissioner and the Genesee County Community Water Quality Consortium’s“Our Water” program, the Flint River Watershed Coalition hosts Flint River Paddles from May through  September, and each one is a uniquely beautiful journey down a different part our Flint River.  Paddle with us to explore the beauty and wonder of our healthy thriving Flint River on a guided tour.  You can also paddle on your own at your own pace with friends!

Montrose to Birch Run

Launch time is 10:00 am unless otherwise stated (PLEASE arrive no later than 9:30 am)

$10 per person if you have your own canoe/kayak

$15 per person if renting

This fee includes insurance, shuttling, water, snacks, and guides but there may be additional charges for some events depending upon shuttle service. All trips are scouted ahead of time. A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available to rent, so register early!

23rdRotary Park to Saginaw St LandingLovely Lapeer Evening Paddle
Come enjoy a trip through Lapeer! This paddle will last about 2 hours and takes you along an enjoyable part of the Flint River running through Lapeer. Location: Rotary Park in Lapeer, Nepessing St at Lyle St. Meet no later than 5:45 for a 6 pm launch time.
 26thIrish Rd to Mott LakeLazy Days of Summer Paddle
Escape the heat by taking a refreshing paddle on the river. This stretch is home to several Bald Eagles, if we are lucky we may see them during our 3 hour trip. Location: Just north of the Richfield Park entrance off of Irish Rd. (north of Coldwater Rd.). Paddling to boat launch off of E. Stanley Rd. east of Genesee Rd.

2ndRichfield Park to Mott LakeUp North Retreat Right Here at Home
Come enjoy the serenity and scenic vistas that make you feel as though you are up north while remaining right in your own backyard! This 2 1/2 hours trip will give you a new perspective of the Flint River. Location: Richfield Park. Contact Jaime Welch for details.
9thHolloway to M-15Kayaking in the Parks: 101 Paddle

Join the FRWC and For-Mar Nature Preserve as we explore The Flint River. This will be an 1 hour trip down the river, launching from Holloway Dam off Carr Road. Join a river guide from the FRWC and a naturalist from For-Mar who will identify all the wildlife we see along the way.  If we’re lucky we will see some of the many creatures that live along the shores of the Flint River like herons, osprey, eagles, turtles, muskrats, and a variety of fish. This is an easy float appropriate for all levels. Participants ages 10 and older can paddle by themselves.  Younger children can participate by riding with an adult. Time: 10am.  Cost: $25 per participant. Pre-registration required by 7/7/16.

16thHolloway to Irish RdSummer Getaway
Come enjoy a fun 3 hour paddle along a amazing stretch of the Flint River. Location: Take I-69 to M-15 (Davison exit). Go north on M-15 about 6.5 miles to Stanley Road. Go east (right) on Stanley Road about 1 mile to Oak Road, then go north about 1/2 mile to Carr Road. Take Carr Road 0.3 miles to launch at the base of the Holloway Dam

6thFRCA FlotillaFlint River Corridor Alliance 3rd Annual Flotilla
Come float down the Flint River with us! This is not your normal float down the Flint River. Bring whatever floatation device you can think up! Last year we had kayaks, boats, inner tubes, even a 30 foot raft! Please see our website for more cost, location, and more information.

17thBirch Run, Morseville Rd to Seymour RdBirch Run Wednesday Evening Paddle
Escape the heat by taking a refreshing paddle on the river and get a chance to spot our famous bald eagles. This 2 hour paddle takes in a gorgeous stretch of the Flint River. Location: Birch Run Road to Morseville Rd (across from the Taymouth Township Office) paddling to Seymour Rd by the railroad tracks. Meet no later than 4:45 pm for a 5 pm launch.
20thM-15 to Irish RdFloat the Flint!
Enjoy the scenery and relax. Prepare to enjoy a 2 hour paddle down the Flint River.
Location: M-15, north of Coldwater Rd.
 28thMontrose Barber Memorial Park to Birch Run Fun Times Picnic on the Flint River
This will be our 3rd year of having a picnic on the Flint River. Enjoy the beauty of summer with a lovely paddle along the Flint River. Prepare to enjoy a 2 1/2 hour paddle down an easy stretch of the Flint River with a stop at a sand bar for a picnic lunch along the way. Lunch not provided, please bring your own.
Location: Montrose Barber Memorial Park, south of Vienna Road on Seymour Rd in Montrose, paddling to Morseville Rd in Birch Run. Please note the date. This is the last Sunday in August.

3rdBray Rd to Viet Nam Veterans Park4th Annual Pedal to Paddle
Enjoy the beauty of summer with a lovely bike ride down the Flint River Trail with our biking group, Friends of the Flint River Trail, and then paddle your way back along the Flint River. This calm and relaxing 2 1/2 hour paddle is awash with beautiful scenery. Please arrive no later than 9:45 am at Viet Nam Veterans Park. Riders will be leaving promptly at 10 am. If you wish to participate in the paddle but not in the bike ride, please arrive at 10:30 at the Bray Road location. This event is designed to allow participants to bike ride, paddle, or join in on both! Call Jaime Welch with questions 810-767-7140

17thFlushing Riverview Park to Dodge RoadExperience the Fall Colors
Here is the ultimate fall color tour, courtesy of the Flint River. Enjoy a colorful 3 hour paddle surronded by all the colors of fall. Location: Flushing Riverview Park to Dodge Road Landing, east of Seymour Rd.
22ndBirch Run, Morseville Rd to Seymour RdCelebrate the Fall Equinox Evening Paddle
Celebrate the solstice with the FRWC and a magical paddle along the Flint River. This 1 1/2 hour evening paddle is our last of the season. Meet time is 4:45 pm with a launch time of 5 pm. Location: Birch Run Road to Morseville Rd (across from the Taymouth Township Office) to Seymour Rd by the railroad tracks.
