FRWC’s Stewardship Day brings the community together to make a big impact on the Flint River and its watershed. This cleanup event has been an April staple for over twenty years, originating with Friends of the Flint River Trail, now an FRWC chapter. Over the years, FRWC has joined forces with Genesee County Parks, the City of Flint, Kettering University and many others to create one of the area’s largest single day cleanup efforts.
FRWC regularly organizes cleanups for individuals and groups that would like to safely participate in cleanup efforts focused on the river without the need for waders or special training. These cleanups happen along the riverbank and shoreline throughout the watershed, focusing on trash and debris removal. Dates and locations vary; please contact us to schedule a cleanup for your group.
These cleanups focus on debris and obstructions in the river, and involve working with hand tools to safely remove river obstructions while preserving wildlife habitat. Experienced chainsaw operators and laborers are needed to help with in-stream removal in Genesee and Lapeer Counties. River cleanups typically occur in late spring, before river events, and as blockages are reported throughout the paddling season.
