Community Engagement & Planning

The FRWC has partnered with Michigan State University

Planning and Zoning Center to build citizen engagement in the often forgotten water resources of Flint – Thread Lake; Flint Park Lake; Kearsley Reservoir.

Project Coordinator Sondra Severn and Executive Director Rebecca Fedewa, along with staff from MSU Planning and Zoning Center (PZC) have reached out to residents and neighborhood leaders surrounding Thread & Flint Park lakes to seek their vision” for the future of their lakes. This summer we will form a vision for the neighborhoods surrounding Kearsley Reservoir.

What have we been up to?

View the FRWC photos!

On August 17th, 2013 – Southside Neighborhood Community Picnic where we talked to many current and former residents of the

Thread Lake neighborhoods and invited them to share their vision for Thread Lake with us at the Ice Cream Social.

On September 7th, 2013 – Together with MSU Planning & Zoning Center (PZC) staff, and along with the help of key neighborhood/business leaders we held an Ice Cream Social. We received input from around 65 area residents all interested in what “their” Thread Lake could be in the future!

On October 8th, 2013 – The PZC & FRWC hosted a Thread Lake Visioning Session, and it was a success! Residents representing neighborhood groups and business owners that surround Thread Lake attended and “envisioned” their idea of what the lake could be in the future.

On November 14th – Teamed up with PZC, we hosted a Flint Park Lake Visioning Session. We were joyed with the response from over 20 residents & neighborhood leaders and look forward to presenting their ideas through the Flint Park Lake Vision Document.
